Theatre Royal.

The dramatic season of Mr De Lias' Company,, with Mr Gr. D. Chaplin as the " star," was brought to a close on Saturday night by the production of" Othello; 'r Mr Chaplin playing the Moor, Mr Steele as lago, Mrs Walter Hill as Emelia,' and Miss.Lizzie Morgan as Desdemona. ] Mr Chaplin played with care and finish, and presented an excellent impersonation of the Moor, but the production as a whole was not equal to " Hamlet" or " Mac* beth." Some excuse, however, may be made by reason of the fact that during the season of seven nights no piece was repeated, and the constant change must have been felt by the members of the company who were called upon to appear in so many different parts. As a whole the season has been fairly successful—less so to the lesfcee, Mr De Lias, than in a professional seme. Certainly, for years past no dramatic performances have deserved so well of the public, and those who bavt patronised the theatre, during the past week have had no reason to complain, bat much to congratulate themselves on. In tragedy and comedy Mr Chaplin has established his claim to recognition as an actor of sterling ability, and he has been well supported by as good a company as ' could well be got together in the Colony ' at the present time. For ourselves we are sorry the season of legitimate drama | has come to an end. I
