The oomplitnentary d" iner to Mr James Macka- on his depailure from the Thames will taice place at the Governor Bowen Ho:.el this evening, when Mr Ehrenfried, AcUug Mayor, will take >the chair, and Mr C. F. Mitchell the vice-chair. This m»vk of appreciation of Mr Maokay's efforts to promote the welfare of the Thames is , well deserve i, and from the way it is be'ng supported the demonstration will be a thoroughly representative one. Mr Mackay will carry with him the good w;she3 of a large proportion of the community, while the pioneers of the Themes will be' with him to a men.
Poor young Hurley, who was injured in'the spine by a fall fiom a horizontal bar some weeks ago, died at the hospital "this morning. Though little hopes were entertained for his recovery,• at first he appeared to mend a little, until some ten days ago, since when he has been' sinking rapidly till his demise.. The deceased lad was a great favourits amongst his com* pauions, who have testified their regret at his accident by frequent and anxious enquiries at the hospital as to his state, &nu several of his more particular friends amongst the lads have sat up with him when his condition i equired it.
