TIDE TABLE.
Fall Moon—l2tb j 3.19 a.m;
A iecttjbe t>n suicide in Sa.n Francisco, says the Weekly Post, the other night failed to draw, because it was like the play of "Hamlet" with .the part of Hamlet omitted. In Capron, Illinois, a barber named Burleigh was much more successful. He drew a good house, over $200 being taken at the door as a burial fund. He had placarded the town with bills announcing his intention.of committing suicide at Thorton Hall on the 2Snd; hence the interest taken in the lecture. After discoursing for an hour and a half on suicide, and justifying it as a means of terminating life's troubles, he drew a revolver and shot himself dead. The life drama of Burleigh was finished, and the curtain fell Upon a perfectly consistent career. The novelty of the proceeding may^ excite imitators, 1 but the eclat will remain with Burleigh, of Illinois. We hardly know what to say in relation to this exhibition. Euthanasia has had its advocates in all time, but the moral sentiment of mankind appears to frave declared against it, However, in modem society it is becoming more popular, and the public exhibition in a quiet Illinois town, the other night, m»yl»ave the effect of increasing its adherents. A* 'a. method of raising a burial fond, this was perhaps the most original tipon record, and it is only to be hoped that the doorkeepers did not steal the dollars. Kbbbing the dead is a renal offence nowadays.
