CANDIDATES FOE THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
> (To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib,—To-day, while on my rounds, I met an old friend doing the block. Being of an inquisitive turn of mind, I enquired what was his little game P He whifpered, " Canvassing for Mennie and Brassey." I felt for my fiiend, and thought he ought to Ye at home taking care of himself, as he looked more fit to be in bed than canvassing for men who won't thank him a bit atter the election is over, although people do say that Mennie
and Dey have and are keeping a good many families from starving. If this" be true I hope Mennie will get returned to the Borough Council, as I Lave a weakness for charitable men. With . many others I am looking forward with some interest to the coming election. If the whole County and Borough had been picked from, you could not find a more motley crowd.. It is a very great pity that we can't make them all Councillors, so that the public might have a little cheap amusement once a fortnight; at the same time it is to be hoped that the burgesses will take the trouble to make enquiries as to who are the best men, independent of friend or foe,' and vote for those who will mutually agree amongst themßelvei to serve their own interests first and the burgesses' afterwards. . . OuTsrDM.;
