Mr James Francis Wedderburn Bishop, of Bramdean House, Hampshire, hat been sentenced by the Berlin 1 Criminal Court to two and a half years'imprisonment for bribing Sergeant Hennig, of the Boyal Prussian Artillery, to procure him Wo* niously papers relative to the mobilisation arrangement of the, Prussian *field iirt& lery. It was stated that Mr Bishop, who is the son of an English clorgyman and a convert to the Homan Catholio faith/was . sentenced to ten years' penal imprisonment in 1864 by the Turin court for conspiracy in favour of the ex-King Francis of Naples. It was also asserted that he bribed:, & Prussian sergeant, Ellert, at Mete, in. 1877, to give him particulars relative to the mobilisation of the Boyal Engineers; The English Ambassador has forwarded to the Emperor of Germany a petition i from Mr Bishop, who does not appeal > against his sentence, but simply asks that his imprisonment may be in a fdrtreil where books are allowed and,no-degrading'' dress is worn. , , . ".. . .\ \ Said a Hibernian lawyer bt Omaha, in concluding his address at a meeting mi commemoration of the death of a fellowcitizen, who had been killed in a railway accident: •; Deeply I deplore-the calamity wiiich deprived- us • of- our friend and but for which he might bo alive to-day, and • may be with us here on this solemn occasion."
