Inspections.
The inspections of the different Volunteer Companies for the month of August were commenced last night by Major Murrary, in the absence of Major Withers. The companies inspected were, first the Thames Scottish and Naval Cadets at the Volunteer Hall, Shortland, at 7.30, and No. 2 Scottish Volunteers at their hal\ Grahamstowri, at eight o'clock. Both companies of Cadets mustered well under their respective captains, Mennie and Bennett. They also drilled very fairly indeed, some of the non-commissioned officers being particularly smart and well up in their duties. Major Murray, at the close of the inspection, gave the lads some practical advice, and said he should report favorably to Major Withers. On behalf of the officers and members of the Naval Cadets, the inspecting officer presented Captain Bennett with a handsome sword belt, and in doing so made a few appropriate and complimentary remarks; on Captain Bennett as an energetic volunteer officer. Captain Bennett feelingly replied. "'■■'
