A Nobleman's Method. —At St. Petersburg I had a coachman—a most respectable man. Once a month he used to make his appearance in my lodgings, fall upon his knen before me, and say something. I would nod. lie would then withdraw, go and get drunk for three days and nights, and then reappear, kiss my hand, and resume his duties as coachman. Had I not permitted this safety valve he would have got drunk while driving me, and upset me.*—London Truth.
