"HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE."
(To the 'Editor of the E7JBNING- 1?TA.8.) " Sir,— lv a few weeks the Thames will lose one of its greatest friends ; one who has struggled in it and for it from its days of infancy to the present; one who had in it many a hard battle with our aboriginal brethren ere it was proclaimed safe for an ordinary European to plant his foot upon; Therefore we think the pioneers of the Thames and her many well to do settlers will agree with us chat our indefatigable hero, James Mackay, Esq., (who never considered any hour too long, any privation too great to. work for the welfare of our goldfieldj ought to receive some recognition of our esteem for his invaluable services, both in the past by securing for us the goldfield, and the present by so ably settling the Upper Thames aud Moehau difficulty.—l am, &c., F. Sthangb.
[We believe Mr Strange's suggestion will be cordially received and acted upon.—Ed.]
