ALBURNIA.

There was a rumor flying about the Corner to-day to the effect that something good had been obtained in the Alburnia, and the shares had an upward tendency at once. I visited the mine this afternoon, and was informed by, the manager that 451bs of specimens had been obtained from the Dixon's reef. On reaching the Dixon's w/pze, which is just completed, after a rather dirty climb I found myself at the place where the specimens were obtained. Operations have only been started, and perhaps not more than two or three truck loads of quarta'obtain'.'i. The lode is• from nine :nches to a foot thick, but the face was diriy, and in consequence I had not a chance to look for gold. The stone itself is nice looking quartz, and as there is a very large .block, should pay well. The lode runs almost parallel with the Sons of Freedom reef, and has always paid well in the upper levels, so that | the discovery of gold so soon may be taken as a highly satisfactory omen. I also visited the wast drive Whau level on Sons of Freedom lode, and there found a fine strong reef in the face—2^ feet thick, with good colors of gold through it and good minerals. In the slopes about TOO feet back from the face the reef is looking better thaa I have seen it do for a long time. At one point on the footwall there was a well defined run of gold showing in the quartz. Some stripping will require to be done here before breaking down takes place. L^.st time quartz was broken several pounds of spec: mens were obtained. Good gold is also showing in reef at intermediate level.
