WELLINGTON! . f ' Friday. The Hon. Mr Miller asked the Colonial Secretary what steps were taken by the Government regarding the nomination
of immigrants; what facilities were! afforded for securing correctness iv applications, and ..'.for,, ascertaining the character of nominated immigrants, especially in places where there is no immigrution officer. The Hon. Colonel Whitmore said precautions were being taken by the Government in accordance with a letter from the Agent-General. The -üblic .Reserves Bill and the Executive Councillors Bill were read a second time. On the latter considerable discussion took place, from which it appeared to be the general opinion, that there should be more than one member of the Executive Council in tho Upper House. Several bills passed in the Lower House were advanced a stage. The Council aajourned at 4.55 p.m.

The Legislative Council resumed at 8 p.m., and passed an Imprest Supply Bill for £25,000. ' ; : \
The Hon. Mr Campbell obtained leave to give evidence before the Lower House on goldfields, and the Council adjourned till Tuesday at 2.30.
