""" Tuesday. In the Legislative Council to-day, t'le Hon. Major Whitmore received permission to introduce a bill to amend the Public Reserves Act, 1877. The Literary Institutions and Public Libraries Bill and Reprint Statutes Bill were read a second time. A discussion ensued on the question of privilege raised by the Hon. Mr Brett, who founded bis motion on an article that appeared in the Timaru Herald of the '3rd instant, embodying certain serious reflections on the character of the Hon. J. Martin. The motion was ultimately withdrawn, and the Council then adjourned.
