This day. The Municipal Conference.

At the Municipal Conference a letter was received from Ihe Government declining to pay the subsidies voted but of the consolidated fund in full from the Ist of January, 1878. The matter was discussed as to whether legal action should be taken with the Counties; as there was only a thin attendance further consideration as postponed. Several technical alterations were suggested in the Bating Act Amendment, and carried, that the gold duty should be paid into a separate account, and Government' should divide these funds between the Boroughs. and Counties in which they accrue. Sugges-^ tions made by last year's conference relative to the exemption of corporation instruments from stamp duty, municipal reserves and leases, licenses, and election of councillors were confirmed. . -
