Thames Water Supply Committee.

The usual monthly meeting of this body waa held at the Council Chambers last evening. Present—The Mayor (in the chair), Messrs Read, McGowan, Price, Thorburn and Stone. |' - NEW HEMBER. Mr Stone, member for Parawai, was introduced to the Committee. SEDUCTION. An application for a reduction of the charge (£6 10s) for the supply of water to the Whakatane natives was read from W. H. Taipari. It was resolved that, the charge be reduced by £2. The referring of. the matter to the Works Committee' was lost. BAKE OF NEW SOUTH WALES. A letter was read from Mr F. W. Paul, of the Bank ot New South Wales, asking in event of the Bank taking the water what charge would be made. '■ . : •" It was resolved that the charge be £2 per annum. BEMITTANCE OF BATE. The water rate of Mri Rowley, widow of Mr 0. Rowley, who is in indigent circumstances, was remitted. '•■ T". FINANCIAL. •" The Secretary reported that the accounts for the month amounted to £784 . '8s lOd, including the cost of the 9-inch pipes at Parawai. The Waiotahi job would cost about £150. The overdraft amounted to £14 14s, and £480 rates had been collected during the month, and he expected to collect £400 more this month. A GRIEVANCE.

Mr Nicholls, carter, wrote to the Council with reference to a loss he had sustained in carting the Committee's mains to Parawai. He had tendered to cart a larger number than there really were, there having been a clerical or printer's error in the advertisement, and he carted the pipes to the more difficult portions of the route, and there not being enough to lay to Hogg's , corner he had lost by the contract. He ' applied for £13, which would be the contract price if he had completed hist contract. . - ■'-.. Mr Nicholls was present, and in answer', to a question said he would hare made £5 if he had laid the pipes the remainder of the distance. v After some discussion it was decided not to pass the account for the £13, bat Mr Nicholls was asked to furnish a fresh account. NEW WOBES, ETC. The turncock reported that the water meter had been fixed on Goods Wharf. Pipes had been placed along Parawai Eoad as far as Taipari's carved house. 75 or 100 tons of pipes would carry the 9 inch main to Albert street. All tbe members present agreed with the utility of the , extension of the mains, and it was resolved to ask the sanction of the Local Bodies to guarantee the cost of extension. FIBE PLUGS. The Works Committee and Turncock were authorised to lay fire plugs in connection with the new mains, where required. ACCOUNTS. The accounts for month were passed, subject to the approval of the Finance Committee. FINANCE COMMITTEE. Messrs Bagnall and Stone were elected members of the Finance Committee. This was all the business.
