Tip on No. 2 Scottish Stakes.
The No. 2 Scottish Bace meeting even* tuates this evening, and great interest is evinced as to the result by members' of the Club, and it is expected there will be a large attendance. The following is my tip on the various events:—
Captain's Plate. — For this event there is only one entry—Lawyer,' by Fireman, dam No. 3. It will therefore be a walk over for the veteran, who has shown good metal in former .events, and whose superior training' and numerous successes have frightened owners. Subaltebn Stakes. — The following horses are entered for this event: — Foundryman, by The Brothers, out of Engineer; Miner, by Una, out of Wind; Theodolite, oul of Survey, dam Cobweb. There will be a very close contest, but I think I can place Foundryman as win* ner. He is in good condition, and is a large, fine looking animal. The strawberry chestnut—Theodolite—should make a good second, the third making the running. The next event is—The Caledonian Plate, and for it is entered Circular Saw, by Old Colonist. No other horses have come out, and he will have a walk over.
For the Flag Handicap the entries are: Engineer, out of Waterworks, by C.E., and Banker, by Babbler, out of National. The latter is not in very, good condition, and betting ia^-two to one on Waterworks' colt, which, I think, will first catch the judge's eye. Staff Handicap.—The Borough (aged) out of Eaw by Don will hare a walk over for this event. His recent performances have'been satisfactory; - - Non-Cons Plate.—There are a number of entries for this race, which is a preparatory event for superior honori. Amongst those who are likely to come to the scratch are Crumpet (entered for a* previous event); Young Bobbie, out of Ellerslie by Waiwera; Ticket, sire Assay out of Ledger; Fict, by Tweed, dam.unknown; Spuds, by Poteen dam Erin; Broker dam Exchange by Johnnie; Skeno Dim by Tasman dam Shortland. For this event there > will be a good race. The owners all mean running on their merits, and the contest should be close. Most of the horses have been well trained, and their previous performances have been encouraging., Broker is a little rakish and hard to hold, but over a short course ought to be well up. Skene Dhu has backers, and as the stakes are divided I would assign places to Spuds and Pict after the winners, they being well up. The last event is the Consolation Stake, a hurry skurry, and I place them as follow*:—Woodman, Turtledove, Poly, Chaff, Wires and Boru. The events will come off on the Esplanada, and the set-' tling up immediately after. There jsjiot much booking done at present^but oa the course it is expected there will be a little ready money business and lots of— "Fiz. w
