DISTRICT WANTS. The Mayor said that they had met to decide what matters should be brought voder the notice of our representatives. He informed members of the steps taken by the Harbor Board. The first thing they should consider was the matter of the llailway Bill. , ' Cr Ehrenfried, after referring to the interest the Premier took in this matter, said it might be well to ask the Govern- v ment to bring the bill up early .in the session. The Mayor said he had not heard what the Government thought of the bill, but'the clause re the amount of Government guarautee might probably be opposed, by the Government. ■•■■•- j Cr Wilson moved that the Mayor and Cra Henshaw and Ehrenfried and Town Clerk be a committee to draft the letters and conduct correspondence with our representatives re the wants of the Borough. Carried. - . The next matter considered was the foreshore. • * Cr Ehrenfried said he did not think it necessary to discuss each matter seriatim, as they all knew them.
The Mayor then read over a list of the wants of the district, all of which the Committee were empowered to deal with. The following was the list:—Thames Valley Eailway Bill, Water Supply Amendment Bill, Thames Foreshore, Bill, enabling Government to Vest foreshore in Harbor Board, and giving power to that body to fulfil contracts made by the late Superintendent and raise loans on security of foreshore, endowments for Borough, endowments for charitable institutions, money grant in lieu of endowment promised by Ministers if Thames became a Borough, money grant for Coromandel road, money giant for road to harbor on East Coast. Money grant for roads to Piako and Waikato, Licensing Act, School of Mines and Government Assay Office* Concerning the recreation ground the Mayor said that the small piece of flat native land that Mr Murdock had promised to purchase for the Council had been purchased by him, and sold to Mr Wilson, of the gas works. He (the Mayor) had seen Mr Wilson, who would take £150 for the 8 acres. He had given £6 per acre for the piece, and other expenses brought the total cost up to £70. He suggested that they should give Mr Wilson £100 for it.
Cr Ehrenfried characterised Murdock's action on this matter ts a piece of sharp practice. The -Mayor said there were several things not on the list, viz., the Waste Lands Act required amendment and >o did the Education Act. Cr Butt raised an objection to the Education Bill being iuterefered with- by the Council. Several other members thought so likewise, and the amendment of the Waste Lands Act was alone added to the list. -. ASPHALT. The matter of asphalt footpaths was adjourned till next meeting. x This was all the business.
