Thames Harbor Board.

A special meeting of this body was held at the Borough Council Chambers this day at 11 o'clock a.m. Present: The Chairman, the Mayor, Messrs Wilson, Price, Mennie, and Spencer. The Chairman stated what the County Council had agreed to contri ute to the Kopu wharf at their last meeting, yesterday, was one half of the cost. The Mayor moved, and Mr Price seconded, that the offer of the County be accepted, as regards the Kopu wharf. Carried. Mr Spencer moved that Messrs Thompson and Sinclair's tender for the wharf be accepted. The Mayor seconded. Carried. The Chairman said that the next thing was to decide whether they should extend the Shortland wharf 96 feet or 192 feet. The Mayor asked if the Chairman had seen the bank manager since last meeting. The Chairman replied in the negative, and in a conversation that ensued it transpired that the bank was not willing to advance much; more money. . The Mayor said if they would wait five minutes he would go and see Mr Murray. He then went, and in a few minutes returned and said the bank had agreed to let them have £500 more. Mr Spencer moved and Mr Price seconded that the wharf be extended the full distance—l 92 feet. Mr Wilson moved an amendment to the effect that it only be extended one section, but this failed to have a seconder. The motion was then carried. The Secretary asked what they would do about getting the amendments to the Harbor Board Act through the House. In reply to a member it was stated that that the Borough had not come to any decision as to sending down a delegate, at last night's meeting. The Mayor said that he considered Rowe perfectly useless and inefficient, and if he had been useful the question of a delegate would never have arisen. There had been a deal of dishonest talk at the Council meeting last night, but he had not opened his mouth. , Mr Price assented. Mr Meonie proposed that the proposed amendments in the Harbor Board Act be forwarded to Mr Brodie, accompanied with a request to push them through the House. The Mayor seconded. Carried unanimously. The Chairman said that Mr Howe had plenty to attend to inside the House without doing work outside. The Mayor: There is no use mincing matters, Davies. He is quite inefficient. I know he has plenty of other duties to perform. (Laughter.) The Chairman: At any rate I think it would be better to have some one to look after the matter. If owe can have no objection to us giving it to Brodie.

Mr Price :'J would not care a rap for his objection. The molion was carried. " , The Secretary said that at the House of Representatives a crtain member was once speaking, and the leader of his party sent a message by the whip, which was- 1- " Tell that drunken fool to stop. He's just speaking the very opposite he was told to." That was a fact. [Noneot the members of the Board could guess who the representative was.] The Board then adjourned.
