Tuesday. The House of Representatives met at 7.30 this evening. NEW MEMBEES. Mr Green, new member for Port Chalmers, was introduced by the Hon. Mr Stout and Mr Thompson, and took the oath and his scat. Mr Saufulers, the new member for Cheviot, \i&a introduced by the Hon. Mr Stout and Mr Montgomery. BETUBNS ASKED FOB. Mr Gisborne gave notice to n~ ore'for a series of customs returns for 1877, and first half of 1878; also returns regarding immigration and emigration. LIQTIOB TBAFFIC AND LOTTERIES. Mr Fox gave notice to ask whether the Government intend to introduce bills for dealing with the sale of intoxicating liquors, and the suppression of lotteries ; and also to bring under the notice of Government the presence in Australia of Japanese representatives and their mission. MIDDLE ISLAND BAILWATS. Mr Woolcock gave notice to ask if the Government intended this session to ask for an appropriation for a line connecting the east and west coasts of the Middle Island. WHANGABEI TBAMWAY. Documents relating to the construction of a tramway or railway from Kamo to Whangarei were laid on the table at the request of Sir Robert Douglas. " j BILLS INTBODUCED. The following Sills were introduced by the Hon. Mr Stout, and read a first time: —Bill to amend certain provisions in Acts relating to the Civil Service; Bill to amend the Mercantile Law Amendment Act, ]8»3O; Bill for the management of Trades Unions,in the colony: SESSIONAL COMMITTEES. The usual Sessional Committees, with one exception, were appointed, and that was for a Selection Committee regarding public petitions, &c.
