WELLINGTON.

Sunday.

About one o'clock this morning a violent north-west gale set in, and it has blown with great fierceness ever since. Several houses in course of erection were blown down, and others much twisted and strained. Many' fences and out-houses were blown down. The yacht Xariffa was- blown ashore; One of H.M.s Nymphe's boats was. swamped, but all got ashore in safety. A life boat was sent after them to bring them back, but the crew could not, and the boat waa hauled up on the beach. All the vessels at the wharf had put out extra warps, and H.M.s. Nymphe had all topmasts and yards down.
