The following paragraph from an English paper, referring to Sergeant-major Kenny, who was-foe,.many years one of the drill-instructors' to the New Souch Wales Volunteer Force, >will be read with interest by many old Sydney"volunteers: —" The following notice of promotion" appears in the Gazette: —1 Sergeant-major William Kenny, P >val Denbigh and Merioneth Militia, to oe quarter-master.' We may add that Mr Kenny's promotion has afforded -general satisfaction in the regiment, he having serve J without in' terruption tor a period of 24' years as. Regimental Sergeant-major, viz., 14 years in the First Twelfth Foot and 10 years in his present militia regiment, thns^cbm^ pleting a tot;' service of 32 years. He is in possession of the medal for. highly meritorious service, and he served in tho New Zealand war of 1868 66; under Gene, rals Cameron and Cb.ute, being also in possession of the New Zealand war medal. He returned with his regiment to England in the latter end-of; 1867, after .'having been, nearly 34 years abroad, and we here take this opportunity of reproducing the words of bis late "commanding officer, on the occasion of his leaving the First Twelfth [Regiment; as follows:—'By his upright conduct, strict, adherence to his duties, and the thorough knowledge of his profession which .he has displayed during his long term of service, he has gained the respeci due to real merit from his comrades and subordinates, and the- approbationand esteem of, his officers.' To the foregoing we may add/ personally, that Mr Kenny's conduct s'nee his residence in Wrerham has at all iimes proved him to be the possessor of those natural attributes which constitute (a gentleman and a soldier/"-^-Sydney Morniig Herald. . .
