NAPIER.

Thursday.

A volunteer. demonstration took place to-day. A half-holiday was proclaimed, and all places of business were closed. There was competition between various squads for prizes, and afterwards competition between Napier and Spit Brigades. The weather was very wet, and marred the affair a good deal; still there were large numbers of spectators. In the evening there was a torchlight procession, the volunteers and band taking part. The weather having cleared up, this was a great success. A dinner takes in the Theatre Koyal to-night.
