New Guinea Expedition.

The New Guinea Prospecting Expedition, we are informed, will leavo for Port; Constantino, on the north east coast of New Guinea, on Wednesday week. The barque Delawa ye is advertised to sail with the party, and will take other passengers at ordinary rates. The association have adopted mearures to prevent any repetition of the unfortunate occurrences at former rushes by taking with them a large supply of provisions, and compelling others to do the same. The locality to which the party is bound is considered most suitable for commencing operations, the harbour being safe, the natives friondly, and the high ranges known as the Finisterro Mountains being easy.of access. The climate is considered superior to that on the southern portions of the island, and the country more suitable for prospecting purposes. \ A meeting of those whb take an interest in the colonisation-, of New Guinea was held at the Ueform Club Hotel on Tuesday evening, when the prospectus of the Australasian Colonisation Company was circulated, and information was given as to the intentions of the company with respect to the colonisation of New Guinea. Mr Emcnuel occupied the 1 chair, and explained the reasons why New Guinea should be annexed to Victoria. The secretary of the new company went more into the detail, and gave a glowing account of the riches of the j great "islands which were waiting to be gathered. It was intended to send forward bands of pioneers consisting of 50 each. Steamers were to be purchased, and constant communication kept up between the settlement and Melbourne. The Capital of the company is fixed at £30,000 in shares of £1 each. Petitions to the Queen for the annexation of New Guinea to Victoria were issued to those present, who undertook to obtain signatures. After the meeting those present were invited to become shareholders in the company.—Australasian. July 13.
