Saturday. At a meeting of the University Council yesterday, it was resolved " That this Council having learned that the Presbyterian Synod of Otago and Southland had resolved in January last to erect a second chair in^ the University of Otago, express gratification at the prospect of another chair, and also, the opinion that a<;hair of the (English language, together .with constitutional history, in the present j circumstances^-lf the University, would be of the greatest service to higher education." ._-. ,■;.■■ -.:'...- '■„• ■■■'"■.I A. H. Boss, optician, has been requested to stand, for Eoslyn. This day. In consequence of the urgent solicitations of Sir George Grey, Mr. J. C. Brown will not, says the Herald, resign h's seat for Lawrence. A petition against the present system of. education was numerously signed at the Catholic Church yesterday. j
