MR CHARLES HART IN DEFENCE.

(To tiie Editor of ;the Evening Star.) Sib, —I think you were rather hard upon me in your leading article on Saturday. .The ;old adagtf is—■" One side is f*66&.. until;the other is told." I did not say what I said at the Council to hurt the Foreman of Works' feelings, and if I did do so, I hereby make an apology. I was asked by the Council what we .wanted doing in Upper-Albert street ? And what I would do it for? I said we wanted a foot-palh a yard wide, pitched and gravelled, upi to Reardon's, and a water-table such as the one now laid from the bottom of the hill, which has stood well for years. I told them what I would do it for. TheForeman, of Works came up, and. made a plan with three times as much work in it as what I proposed to do—which was quite unnecessary—for instance, he made a plan for the water-tabling to be five times larger than, the water below (which answers well); And water always accumulates going downwards. I think under the circumstances I had a right to speak, and the Council had a right to hear me. What I'was afraid of, was, that the Foreman of Works' plan was so expensive that it; would' not be done at all.—l am, &c, CHABLE3 HaBT. ; July, : 7th,, 1878. . : . .. .:.., P.S.
