THE LADY MORDAUNT SCANDAL.

The Paris American Register says: — " The marriage of Sir Charles Mordaunb to Lord Leigh's neice, Miss Cholmondely, is the final chapter of a long and often painfully interesting story. It is now nine years since Sir Charles petitioned for a divorce fromliis wife, who was one of a group of sisters' famous for their beauty and high standing in society. Lady Mordaunt did not pleadi and so, ia February, 1870, the Judge of the Divorce Court directed the jury to try the question if she was or was not , sane. The Prince of Wales was a witness on that occasion. The jury found that the respondent was insane. More than three years passed before Sir Charles brought an appeal to the House of Lords, and it was not till two years ago that he at last succeeded in proving hia wife's guilt, and getting a release from the. legal bond which bound him to her. Now, at 42, he is once more happy. Let us hope that he will continue to be so. He has had more than his share of sorrow. It was through a tragedy that he came into the baronetcy, for when he was only nine years old his father was accidently shot by a friend. He represented South Warwickshire in Parliament -from 1859 to 1868. It is not given to many men to become a county member at 23. Probably we shall see him return to political life."
