PHŒNIX (TAIRUA).
A trial start was made at the company's mill on Tuesday last and a few truck loads were put through. All the speed that is required was obtained with a pressure of 201bs of steam, so that if there is sufficient inducement the size of the battery can be enlarged without increasing the power of the engine. The test of the stuff was also satisfactory, but want of quicksilver prevented continuous crushing being started. However, a fair start will be made next week v.nd a
good sized parcel put through. It is estimated that 30 tons per week can be crushed, and as eight or lOdwls will pay there is every likelihood of the affair being a success. There is plenty of stuff available, and I am informed that some weeks ago a shareholder obtained 3ozs of rough gold for aboutafortnight's sluicing.
