Fatal Accident at Christchurch.
CAPTAIN JOHN O'CONNELL OF ■ THE THAMES KILLED.
It was with feelings of the deepest regret that we noticed in a telegram in yesterday's Herald that Captain John O'Connell, of the schooner Josephine of this pert, had been killed at Christchurch on Thursday afternoon, the unfortunate" man having been run over by a train which was just leaving the station for Lyttelton. Captain J. O'Ceanell has many friends on the Thames and at Auckland, especially amongst the seafaring cominanity, xvt o will deeply regret his demise. His wife md two children are residing in this town, and Captain Soutcr, owner of the Josephine, communicated the sad tidings to them yesterday. The deceased has been connected with this port for years, and in the early days of the Thames commanded and owned the schocner Mary Thompson, which was wrecked. He subsequently commanded the brigantine Emu, and the schooners Josephine and Policeman, in the.latter of which he was for a long time engaged in the ceil trade between the Bay of Islands and the Thamzs.
