RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT

THIS DAY. (Before W. Eraser, Esq., E.M.) DBUNKENNESS.

. Two individuals were charged with this offence. One of them was on bail, and failing to appear, his sureties were estreated. The other- appeared, pleaded guilty, and was fined 10s and costs, with the usual alternative. ALLEGED WIFE-BEATING. George Dodd, on remand, was charged with assaulting and beating his wife, Margaret Dodd. Mr Sullen said he had made every enquiry, and was sorry to say that the woman was entirely to blame. It was defendant's trying to keep her at home in one of her drunken fits that had caused the assault. The defendant's step-children spoke highly of defendant's kindness to them. i : His Worship: You may go, Mr Dodd. Court adjourned.
