TAPU PUBLIC HALL.

(To tho Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sir, —I notice in your correspondence column of the 28lh inst. a lot-tor signed " Veritas," written as a reply lo ',' Hastings." "Veritas" states that " Hastings' " letter for lies could not be matched nil the world over. Now, sir, I am one who attended that meeting which was held about six months ago, and can posiiively state at that meeting nothing was said about tho young folks having the use of the Hall, unices they class forties or fifties young folks. At that meeting, or squabble, they, the opposition, actually took possession of the Hall, and afterwards took down the rules which the trustees had placarded on the wall inside the building. " Veritas " will cay, perhaps, " Hastings" could tell who forced the door open. "Veritas" should ask that question quietly, as he knows full well who; and so do most of the people hero. " Vrritas" also accuses "Hastings" of running ■bout the flat in a beery state challenging any roan who was at the meeting to fight him. 11 Veritas " says in a beery state. Hum ! I am eog^ent that a wheelbarrow, a shutter^ potatelSSfe, or anything that a man could be conveniently carried on wonld find an occasionnl job in Tapu in transporting some of our news agents from the hotel home to bed, and a curtain lecture. "Veritas" aleo accuees "Hastings" of receiving one shilling for the purpose of holding the kick up called Lannigan's Ball. True, ihe shilling was received at the eleventh hour, when akin, hair, and blood were flying about, and the faction heaJed by our worthy schoolmaster. 'Twas then " Hastings" received the shilling that the party in* side the Hall could hold posaession.—l am, &c, ' . AJOOKEE-ON. • Hastings, June 30, 1878.
