MOANATAIRI.
The cross-cut from the tunnel is in bad working ground at present, and progress is comparatively slow. There is no sign of the Point Russell reef yet, but it should soon be to hand. The cross-cut has been put in on the supposition; that between the bottom of the Point Russell winze and the tunnel the reef changes its underlie, or otherwise it would have been intersected in the cross-cut south from the tunnel driven about a month ago. Driving operations have been resumed on the No. 9 reef at the 80 feet level. The manager has stopped the drive east on the reef below, the slide, as the man slide has been reached. A drive west has now been started, and there the reef is of good size, and the quartz is payable. At the battery the crushing is showing up well. Clark and party and Kneebone and party finished their crushings to-day for the yields of 3ozs 4dwts, and 9ozs ldwt gold.
