THE ZEALAND INDEPENDENT.
The John o' Greats tunnel has been cleaned out up to the face, and soon the manager will be in a position to break but quarz. The reef is standing in the drive for*some distance- back from the face, and is a splendid looking'body of stone/about 3 feet thick. The quartz is heavily mineralised with the metals generally found in an auriferous vein. There are good backs v whic'j should pay handsomely to stope out. Some years ago the Thames Investment Company purchased this pjece of ground for £4000, and subsequently sold one-half of it for £8000, so it will be seen that this mineis not an untried cne, but has had its golden' age like many others, which it is hoped is nbout to re-commence.
