Thb County Council have received several communications regarding the removal of the Golden Arrow battery, and drawing attention to the fact that by the removal the goldfields revenue accruing to the County will be defrauded io a considerable extent. The complications which have'arisen over this matter are of a peculiar kind. On the one band it is contended that the purchasers of the battery, not having removed it within the legally prescribed time, have no claim upon the same, and that it should be sold with the site and the proceeds go to augment the County funds after expenses of advertising and sale have been deducted. Then again there is another interest to be considered —at least parties believe it should be considered—namely, that acquired by the person who bought the machine site at auction, paid back rent on the same, and then had the right forfeited. The site, as is well known, is advertised for sale on a day next month, and there will probably be some further complications before the matter is finally settled. It is one of those cases which illustrates how easily some people may be led into litigation and legal embarrassment; and, however the case may terminate, it seems pretty clear that somebody will suffer in pocket, while the removal of the battery from the district is a matter very much to be deplored.
