The question of preparing the Burg«ss Rolls for the three wards into which the Borough has beeu divided was mentioned at the meellng last night, and the Town Clerk, with bis proverbial eye to economising the burgesses' money, suggested that the -rolls just printed in Auckland for the whole Borough should be utilised for the wards by erasure. Thus : one hundred copies of the roll have been printed, and the Town Clerk's idea is to divide the hundred by three, and erase from 33 copies all the names of voters in the Middle and South Ward, the remaining names to form the Eolls for the Worth Ward/ then to erase all the names of voters in North and South Wards from another 33 copies of the roll, such copies to be ihe Burgess 801 l for the Middle Ward '?>. and then erase all the Dames of burgesses iv. North and Middle Ward from the remaining 33 copies of the roll, so as to form a Burgess 801 l foe South Ward. There is some ingenuity, in this proposal of the Town Clerk's, but to carry it. out would involve nearly as much expense.as printing the new rolls. Besides the expense involved, the Mayor would have to examine each copy of the roll so manipulated before he could certify that it was a correct copy of the Burgess 8011, as it would be very easy for a person doing the erasing to make a mistake. Another objection may be raised agaiast the Town Clerk's " happy

thought" in regard to making Burgess Bolls for wards out of the rolls as printed for the Borough, and one which wijl probably be fatal. The Returning Officer musibecouvinced thattherolls are correct, and it.is scarcely reasonable to expect him to make such a critical examination of the mangled rolls as would satisfy him on that point. The Town Clerk may be commended for his carefulness in trying to economise, but we fear the Council will have to spend a little more in printers' ink; even if they send to Auckland for it.

Yesterday was the anniversary of the Accession of Her Majesty Queen Victoria. We did not observe any display of exuberant loyalty on the part of the Thames people, but pvobably they were unaware of the fact that it was an anniversary of such interest. Her Majesty hai now entered upon the 42nd year of her reign, having ascended the throne on the 20th of June, 1837.

Thebe was on view at Mr Lawless' shop, Brown street, yesterday, a most wonderful sample of the skill and perseverance of the Maori. It consisted of a large mat formed entirely of kiwi feathers and finely-dressed flax. The kiwi is a bird now almost extinct, and the collection of so many feathers must have extended over a very long tin?e. The" rarity of the materials of the mat are not its only "merits, however, as the workmanship shews great skill on the part of the maker. Every feather is sewed on to the fine flax fabric, and is as fivw^as when in the back of the bird. The owner of this curiosity is a gentleman who intends sending it to England, whe.-e its exceeding rarity and beauty shov'd cause it to be highly appreciated.

Me William Eowb, who was disqualified as a Borough Councillor by reason of having been absent from four regular consecutive meetings of the Council, was to-day re-elected without opposition. Names of other probable candidates were mentioned a few days ago, but with chances of defeat staring them in the face, and a generel election coming on in a few months, the gentlemen named did not seem to think the thing good enough. Mr Kowe goes in again, and the Borough, is saved expense.

As the Shortland Court - house will be too smairfor the hearing of cases in which several hundreds are involved, the Court has been adjourned to tbe Volunteer Hall, and business was to be resumed there this afternoon, when it was probable the Waibarakeke case would be commenced.
