CANADIAN SOLDIERS.
In these' days of war's alarms it. ia highly satisfactory to receive so good a report of Canada's army as that just, published by Sir Selby Smith, its InspectorGeneral. Speaking of the active.Militia, he characterises it as eminently efficient. The Canadians are naturally of the stuff to make good soldiers; hardy, subordinate to superiors, accustomed to rough life. They, are brought tip with horses andean always ride- well, hence their cavalry is easily trained. More than all this, the military spirit of the country .oust how verges upon enthusiasm. ?hey have turned out their active Militia ere this at a moments of emergency in aid of the civil power;. but now at the prospect of sharing in real war as an integral part of the Imperial forces r the Canadians are wild with excitement. It might well be considered by our.Government whether the plan to be adopted with a part of the Indian army might not be extended also to Canada. If a few Canadian Militia regiments were embodied and brought home to England, there to be encamped and brigaded with the home forces, the effect upon the whole Dominion would undoubtedly be great. — Home News. ■*> '.'.'-
