Theatre Royal.

/The Theatre Royal will be opened this erer ;ng for a bhort season of legitimate drama and comedy, by Mr B. J. De Lias' company from Auckland. In addition to the " stars," -Mr John Jack and Mitis Annie Firmin f whohave during the past few weeks made bach a favorable impression in Auckland, the company embraces some well known old favorites, who in the years gone by were familiar to the boards of the Boyal and other places of amusement here. Of these we need only mention the names, of Messrs J. B. Steele, C Burford and J. Musgrave amongst the gentlemen, Mrs Walter Hill and her daughter of the ladies, the latter (Miss Lily May) having made her debut and acquired an excellent representation since she left the Thames with her mother. The play for this evening will be the First part of Henry IV., with Mr Jack as Falsteff, a character in which he has acquired great kudos from the dramatic critics of America and Canada, and especial praise from our Aucklend contemporaries. Miss, Annie Firmin is represented as making a charming Prince Hal, and the abilities of Mrs Walter Hill and the other old favorites do not require- any recommendation. We may remark that during the six nights of their stay the. company, will produce, a new.' play, ech night, and of the pieces announced three have Hot been produced here before, while the version of " East Lynne " to be played differs from any drain qiiz_lion we liave witnessed on Ihe Thames. The company is the strongest that lias visited the Thames for a long time, and Mr De Lias; has brought with him the necessary scenery and appoint- ] i meats lo render- the several -dramas as completely and effectively as possible. We trust that the weather during the' week will be propi ious, so that the public may be induced to paLonise Mr De Lias in his spirited venture at this season of the year. It will be noticed from the advertisement that the management hare made the stalls the "front seats," the circle being the second place.
