Captain Fraser, R.M., held a Court this morning in the Criterion Hotel,
Paeroa
Hauriora, for baring been drank and disorderly some time ago, was discharged with a caution.
W. G. Nicholls (half-caste) was charged with having been in pursuit of game without a license. He pleaded that, being legally an aboriginal native, he was justified, having a right or interest in the land. The case- was adjourned to the Thames, to be heard on the 19th inst.
William Collett was charged with haying been unlawfully in the pursuit of game on the 7th May. He pleaded not guilty. Constable A. McCounell gave evidence that he heard a gun fired when on his way to Mack ay f own, and in about three minutes afterwards he met the defendant ne^r Nash's, with gun on his shoulder and dog at his heels. The defendant refused to let him search his bag, which had fresh blood on it, and contained what seemed to be a large bird. In his defence the defendant said he had been shooting pigeons, but the Court held that the case was proved, and fined him £5, and costs. Sergeant Ruzsell conducted the prosecution.
