Intimation has just been received that the Singapore cable is interrupted, thus cutting off telegraphic communication with China.
The Government have increased the sakry of Major Te Wheoro another one hundred pjr year, the increase to date from the Ist of January last.

After considerable debate the City Council unanimously adopted Mr Clarke's drainage scheme. A few details were objected to, but the scheme as a whole was approved of. The Speaker has received a telegram from Mr Larnach, dated 31st ult., tendering bis resignation. It is notified that the seat is now vacant.
It is stated that in all cases where the acceptance of tenders for the construction of sections of railways and other public works was postponed, pending advice from London as to the floating of the loan, the Government has resolved to let the contracts.
