" BIG PUMP FARCE " &c.

(To the Editor of the Evening Stan)

Bib, —Seeing the opinion of Mr Brodie, Chairman of the County Council, in the Evrning Stab of sth inrt. and Thames Advertiser of 6th inst., concerning the representation proposed' to be given to the County in the Hospital Committee as being only 1 in 22, and being a repetition of the Big Pump force, how can it be. reconciled to the Chairman's views ? His going to Auckland to attend meetings, if it is a faroe, at a cost to the ratepayers of £3 3s per trip to attend such meeting. If his pretence is not of any use he should not go, and therefore) do what he can to protest against the injustice of the County having such a small say in the Big Pump, and also save the ratepayers' money, it would redound more to his credit, although he could not act the big wig by his frequent and costly -visits to Auckland. No doubt if the farce of the £3 3s was to be got at the Hospital Committee it would be acceptable; —I am, &c, . Okb who is Watching his Movements, AND THOSE OF THE OTHEE Co¥NTI COHNCILIOBS.

June 6th, 1878.

[Our correspondent with the lengthy affix seems to write leas in the interest of hospital maintenance than a desire to have a poke at the County Chairman, who, we may mention, has not lately attended the meetings of the Pumping Association, so that the three guineas of ratepayers' money Lave been saved.—Ed.]
