RECREATION GROUND FOR THE THAMES.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Ste, —I see by the daily papers the gentlemen forming the Borough Council think of purchasing the Parawai Gardens for a public park. I cannot agree with their choice, but, with you, much prefer that offered by Mr Murdoch, a place that, with only ordinary skill and taste, could be made a little Paradise, whilst it would gire ample scope and flat ground for those whose taste leads them to take an interest in racing, cricket, football, &c. ; space to institute archery, lawn tennis, and croquet grounds for the ladies to display their skill; with a fine stream for boating for those whose inclination led that way; plenty of heights for thousands to hare the pleasure of seeing with com* fort the sports that might at any time be conducted on the flats; most picturesque .- and beautiful; a more lovely spot could not have been selected on the Thames. Many of us have admired, the fine fountain's at Sydenham : if a pipe was taken from the race to the flat, what magnificent fountains could be formed, with very trifling expense! That would still farther add to the beauty «f the szene. I do hope such an opportunity may no- be allowed to pass away, but that the inhabitants of the Thrmes ncay soon be con-, gratulated on its acqaisition.—.tarn, <fee, F. R.
