Mr Hume asked was there anything on record 1 o the t-ansaction.

Mr Brodie said that he had informed the Minister in the presence of the then Mayor about the iron, and he had concurred.

It was stated that the account lrom the Government was £80 7s 6d.

Mr Hume si id that a portion of the iron was from the County Council, and some fiom the Government.

Mr Dean sai«' that the Committee hrd applied to the Government for iron plates, and had got permission to take some. They then applied to the Government for some of the waste iron, and Mr Aitken said that '.here were only 17 si cets of waste iron.

Mr Brodie said that they owed the mmey to the Government. Mr -Ehrenfiied moved that the Goveiament b » requested to forego their claim, on the pvDund tint they (the Government) h' i subsequently given the County a large quantity of similar iion. Mr Li'oiie said that there had b-\-j no liberty on the part of the Govei^—ent.

The Couily had got the iron by Act of Parliament.

Mr Hutne withdrew his motion, and seconded Mr Ehrtufried's motion.

Mr J3rodio moved that all the words in tho motion after " claim " be left out.'

Mr McG-owan sec-nded,

Mr Ehrenfried said they would have to give a reason to forgo their claim. Mr Brodie said he would add to his amendment "and that the Chairman be requested to accompany the letter with a slight history of the aftair." Mr Ehreofried asked what reason would the Chairman give? Mr Brodie : That you can't pay. The amendment being put was carried on the'casting vote of the Chairman. THE COUNTY WATER SUPPLY. A letter was received from the County Cle.-k saying that whenever water was used for other purpose than that of extinguishing fires, the sanction of tho County Chairman would bare first to be obtained. Mr Dean said that the Committee had nothing to do with the practices of^ the fire brigadev After some discussion, . Mr Brodie moved that when the fire brig?uks require lo use tho County water for practices, etc., that they make application to tie County Council. Carried.

THE GOXDEN CtIOWN WATER SIMPLY,

He thought that £1 would, be enough. Mr Ehrenfried iroved, and Mr Brddie seconded, that the offer of £1 be accepted. Carried. TERMS FOB WATER. Mr' Dean said that to-night the cotn- , mittee had to make the price and terms for water for the ensuing year.- He had prepared the following statement of the probable rec ."pts and expenditure of the Committee duririg the ensuing year :—

Sums available: B te, if slruck same f.s lr-ifc ycir, £950; rates ou*> standing, not pa: d, £91 13s 2d; due from Bororgli, £350: water BUpply to shipping, say £50—tola.', £1,4.41 13» 2d.

Mr Hume moved that the rate of charges be .the same as last year, and that, in view of the expected alteration of the Act, the amounts paid by each consumer as above proposed, be .onsidercd as payrrents on accounf; of any rale that may be struck. Mr Ehrenfried seconded. Carried.

WATER JOE SHIPPING.

The Secretary was instructed to call for tenders for the supply of water for shipping. The Secretary said that the Turncock wished to get the water metres —one for the Shortland w-iarf and oae for the Burke street wharf. At present a great deal of water was wasted.

It was resolved that the 2\ iach metres to cost about £12 each be obtained forths wharves. '

COLLECTION OF BATES. The collection of rates was left in the Secretary's hands. ' -

ATTDITOBS.

•The Borough auditors were elected auditors to tbe comp ittee for the ensung year. ■ . ■

Mr Hume moved .tbat terders be called fo:.'laying the four-inch pipes down the Burke street Wharf. Carried. -

THE MAINS.

Mr Brodie moved that tenders be called for ihe laying down of the 50 tons of nine inch pipes at Parawai, and also for caring the s^me. Carried. Mr Brodie moved, and Mr Ehrenfried seconded, that ariangemea's be made for supplying tbe Waiotal i Creek with wairr. . •-■■"•'. ■ ■ ■' ■ :■, "■"

Mr Dean stai d that the information given at last meeting re the Waiotahi residents refusing to take the water was wrong, as only a few had done so. The Turncock s.id that a ram worked by the County Supply would force the water up the Waiotahi.
