There are one hundred and eight entries for the Melbourne Cup, and forty for the Champion SHie3. Sydney, Monday. Mr Samuel Bennett, proprietor of the Evening News, died today. The heavy gale on the coast is moderati*\<?. Arrived: The s.s. Kotorua. Melbourne, Monday.
The only two survivors from the ship Lofchr-rd, wr. eked yesterday, were a young lady and a midslrpman. Miss Carraic'.iel, the s irvlvjr of t!)3 wreck of the Lochard,' is not expactcd to recover. There is no trace of the wreck. The vessel went down ten minutes after striking the rooks.
