This day.
A six-roomed house, belonging to James Sherriff, near Takapuna Lake, was totally destroyed yesterday by fire. £237 loss-^ £16 in money. Insured in the South British for £150.
The stable of Mr Robinson at Mount Eden was burnt down last night. Damage £150, fully insured.
Mrs Major Crocker, resident of Ponsonby, was charged at the Police Court this morning with obtaining money under false pretence. She went to the shop of Mr Jenkins, Newmarket, and bought goods to the extent of £11 17s, Mr Jenkins stipulated for a cash transaction. She assented, and gave an order on Mr Thome, solicitor, which he had only time to examine after the goods had gone. He then found an order on the first money received. Mr Thorne refused to pay. The case was adjourned till Monday. ,
