Volunteer Land Scrip.

The adjourned" meeting of Volunteers and others affected by the repeal of the Volunteer Land Act was held at the Governor Bowen Hotel last evening. There were 30 or 40 persons present and 'Mr W. McCullough was called to the chair.

The chairman explained the steps already taken in the matter, and Mr Robert Farrell (Hon. Secretary) stated that StaffSergeant Lambert had been at considerable trouble in preparing a full and comprehensive list of tho members of companies at present existing, and that had exist-a, in the district, who were injured by the repeal of the Act. He suggested that a committee might be appoint d *0 draw up a petition to the Government on the matter. Mr Smith moved, " That the Chairman, and Messrs Farrell and Symington be a committee to draw up a petition to the House of Representtives, with the assistance of Mr Lambert; the petition to be submitted to a meeting of Volunteers on Saturday, June Bth. This was seconded by Mr Brownlow and carried unanimously. The Chairman suggested that it might be advisable to secure the co-operaiion of the Auckland corps. Mr Farreli said he was credibly informed

that there were a number of men in

Auckland, who had served in '63 at the ' of the war, who bad not got their scrip, and there were others who were also injured by the repeal of the Act, so that he thought their own interest would induce them to co-operate. Mr Long moved, and Mr Walker, junr., seconded, that the Committee, be requested to communicate with the officers commanding corps in Auckland re this matter. Carried. Mr Farrell apologised for the absence of Lieut. Carnie (commanding Thames Rifle Rangers), and Mr Symington for Captain Murray. The meetipg then adjourned-.
