A Warm Correspondence.

The following correspondence appears in the Poverty Bay Herald of Friday, in reference to the estate of the late Mr G. E.Eead:—

J. S. Macfarlano, Esq., M.H.E.—Dear Sir. —Acting on behalf of all the natives whos.) lands or interests in lands are cln'med by you in common with the other executors of the ■will of tho late Mr G. E. Eeed, as having been Bold, mortgaged, or leased to him during his life time, 1 bog to give you notice that unless I receive from you some definite offer of a settlement to which I can accede, I f hall at once proceed to OBsert the legal rights of my clients. I have further- to inform you that, if in actions which I shall bring against you you choose to defend those which seem to me defenceless, I Bhall uee niy best endeavours to provide for such waste of money of the estate, by mov.'ng tho Supromo Court to compel you to pisy the coßta of both sides out of your own personal estate. —I am, sir, your obedient servant, W. I. Ekes. GUborne, May 21, 1878. *

W. L. Eees, Esq., M.HE.—Sir,—Lest it may bo deemed wrong not to reply to any letter, however; impertinent, senseless, or worthless, I beg to acknowledge receipt of yours dated the 21st, which is certainly the mosl, insolent and meaningless document I ever balu-ld. Surely by this time, and after the experience you have had of the notice I have always taken of any propositions from you, you might have saved youreelf the trouble of making those contained !i your letter, which would have also saved me the unpleasant duty \ of having again to assure you that I cannot enter into any business transactions with one bo utterly, void of business knowledge »s you 'have always shewn yourself to be. And further, as regards your threats, I am sorry to have to teil you plainly that idle threats from one whose knowledge of law and equity, or even of what is right and fair between man und man, is, in my opinion, so insignificant, tliat they will bo treated, by me with the utmost contempt. In short, you have wasted one sheet of paper, and compelled me to waste another —Yours, obediently, J. S. Macfab--lANß.—Gieborne, May 23, iB7B. Mr George, Lawrence receiTed a letter similar to the one above to Mr Macfarlane, and made reply as follows :— W. L. Kefs, Esq.—Si.*,—lfceg to acknowledge receipt of a' letter .duted. 21st May, hearing your name, but, on perusing the contents, I am very doubtful as to whether it is not a hoax, and .that it is not your bona fide signature. I wish you would, therefore, come to my office and I will shew you the letter.—Youro, obediently, OEOEGB Law BENCE.—-Gisborne, May 22, 1878.
