The Herald this morning, commenting on the trial Whitaker v. Jones, says that the cost of the prosecution will be considerably under two hundred pounds, while that of the defence, according 'tb the bill of costs recently deliver-d, will amount Ao £2117 14s. Among the items comprising the bill are the following :—, Paid Mr Uees, £540; paid Mr Bees, refresher, £175'; paid Mr Hislop, £270;'jirefresher to fir Hislop, £IS7 10s. It is stated that other similar items could be culled fcoai the bill of osts presented by Messrs Eets and Hislop.
