SEPARATION OF THE COUNTY.

(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.) vSib,—l see. from the Advertiser of yesterday that some person, sighing himself an Ohinemuri " Agriculturist," is making himself very busy about the pressnt agitation anent separation. Lwould not object to his airing his opinions as he-chooses if he did not go out of his way toilraw in me as having some personal motive in supporting the separation movement. I am ™t?ejl satisfied that •" Agriculturist's "fifty-acre section is not far from the County Council Offices, Pollen street, Shortland, and he is afraid he will lose it should the present County be itf any way interfered with. As .to the motive ascribed to me, the man was never

farther out in his life. Ido not want the main road to pass in front of my door, nor even through the propeity, unless it can be shown that it is the best, route; neither have I any wish to get a township established horo. My reasons (and they are many) for supporting separation are quite convincing to myself, and I cannot see that a man must have a personal motive for taking part in any public movement, and I think the settlers in the district-do not require a hanger-on of the County. Council Office to lead them either one way or the other. I hope that this Pollen street fifty-acre " Agriculturist" will refrain in future from writing unless hs knows that facts are the basis of his epistles.—l am, &c,

P. Austin,

Belmont, Ohinemuri, '' 25ch May, 1878,
