In a previous article investors were cautioned not to go into head-long speculation mi all ot* the recently formed companies, as some ot them might have been formed simply for the purpose of enabling the promoters to' take a feir hundred pounds out of the general public, without any intention of working the grouud. Up to the present,, in respect to the new companies at the head' of the Moanatairi at least, everything is "on the squf re; " good directors have been* appointed, and operations commenced at once, and already some of these mines are obtaining satisfactory prospects. During the past wo^k promoters' shares in a new piece of ground,"' the Titania, have been put in the market and ate going off rapidly at gc od prices, so we may shortly expect to see another company added to the number now working the auriferous ground at the head of the Moanatairi.

The general news of the week has not been uninteresting. It includes the dig. ' covery of gold in the Sons of Freedom reef in the tunnel 350 feet below the * 'present workings. This promises payable quartz in the Sons of Freedom reef for some years yet, and also should materially increase the value of the mines on the same line of reef. Some 6ne returns have been obtained from the Smile of Fortune claim, Owharoa, and Mr Wick is toMM congratulated for taking the Owharoa district so pluckily by the hand and developing payable quartz.
