Dunedin Birthday Races.

The Birthday Races took place yesterday. -The attendance was not large, and the course was heavy in consequence of the fall of rain. The following are the results :—
Handicap Hindis Race, of 43 soys, the second horse to receive 5 sots from the stakes. Entrance, 2 soys. Two miles and . a distance; over 10 flights of hurdles 3ft 6in high. Baron (late Warwiok), Bat lOlbs ... ... 1 Kildare, list 2 Black Bo?c,9itßlbs ... ...3 Cawelid, lOst 71bs ... ... 4 Kildare took the lead, with Baron next, Camelia third, and Black Bess last. The position of the leader remained the same for the first half mile. At the first half mile Baron challenged Kildare, and raced him on level terms for a •short distance, _. but soon fell back. At the back of the course Camelia tried to improve her position, but could not catch Kildare, who, in the meantime, had given way to the - Baron. After a good race down the straight it ended as above. Time: 4mim, 6secs. Maiden Piate, of 35 rots. Entrance, 80s. One mile arid a quarter. Weight for age. For horses that have never won an advertised prize exceeding £20.' ' Pollock's Captain Douglas, sst. lllbs ... 1 • McDonald's Blue Bell,9st 21bs .... ...2 Goodman's Mountain Maid, 9«t Blbs ... 3 Larrikin, Endymion, Honest Jack, Con; friver, and Campalle also ran. Captain Douglas led throughout, and won easily by about two lengths. Time: 2mins 36jsecs. Handicap Tbottihg Race, of 40 tort. The second horse to receive 6 soys irom the stakes. Entrance. 30*. Tiree miles. No weight under lOet. Optional saddle or harness. Bella, 220 yards ... ... 1 Polly, 300 ... ... ;. 2 Kafoozaluni, 550 ... .... ... ... 3 Won easily. Seren started. Time: 9 mins 36£ sees. Bibthdat Haubicai, of 120 says. The second horse to receive 20 boys from the / stakes. One mile and three quarters. Nominations, 2 soys; acceptance, 3 soys. Swan son's Bl ho Peter, 61bs 4s t ... ... 1 Raj's Bide-a-W»e, Bst 51b*... 2 Kettle's Oberon, 7st _. ... ... ...3 .Andrew's Exile, 7st3lbs ... .... ... 0 Contriver and Camelia were scratched. Blue Peter wuLfint to show in front, but was quickly IBBfced by Oberon, who had lost ihMj^^Band these two soon parted compiipKmthe others, and raced well together for the first mile Bide-a-wee then went up and passed Oberon, and for the last half-mile struggled hard to catch Blue Peter, but failed, as the latter won by a length. Oberon and Exile were several lengths behind. Time: 4 minutes 3 sees.

The winner to be sold by auction, and any surplus to go to the funds. Lady Ellen led from the start, and won by two lengths. Time: 2mins. 18secs. TbadesMEh'B Hamdioap, of 80 soys. The second horse to receive 10 soys from the stakes. One mile and a quarter.
