A Difficulty Solved.-—A Frenchman has discovered why Eve ate the apple in Eden. The gentlemanly devil, presenting it to her, remarked that "if Monsieur Adam eat ze appel he will become like our Dieu ; but you, Mnie. Iv, cannot become, more of a goddess than you are n<sw." The compliment settled the question.
