Tito census returns.published show the total population of the province to te 92,433, being an increase since 1874 of 33,658. Christcharch city proper is 10.408, being an increase of 3,114. Lytte'Lon is 3,476 ; increase 502. Timaru is 5,352; increase 1,473. The population of Clirislchurch and its suburbs is estimated at 30,300.
The reporis of the examiners on the University junior scholarship' papers have been received. The following are tl'e successful c ndidates : — Margaret Ed<?er, Auckland; B. M. Connol and C. O. Hilton, Christchurch ; A. Purdie and A. Montgomery, Duncdln. There were 30 candidates.
