The walking match, Bowley v. Pentecost, 50 nnles for £&0 aside, came off.
Pentecost received a start of half an hour,
in which' he covered nearly three miles. Bowley, walking splendidly, caught Pentpcosfc just before he finished his thirtyeighth mile. Bowley covered forty miles in 1 hours 55 mins. Pentecost was then several laps behind, and retired at the fortieth mile, completely knocked up.
